Rendering timber frame?

I need to hack off the existing lath and render of my timber framed property, but am unsure as to how the render will be replaced. Am i correct in saying that i need to fix ply board to the studs then metal lath and then get the rendering down.

Help much appreciated.

three quarter ply, roofing felt, ex-met, scratch coat, finish coat with waterproofer. Any external beads either stainless steel or plastic (not galvanised)
