HI can any one advise me on what products best for a 1906 terrace house that is suffering from falling damp?
the water looks like its coming in between the existing rendure and brick wall; its blown in places so needs removal. theres no overhang on the roof line to add further problems. will normal rendure being but back on after removal of the old solve the problem? ive heard of other types of wall covering and am getting confused on what will work. :?

Most render is sand & cement based. This is basically concrete, concrete is a structural product non porous and damp behind the render can not get out. This then results in the peeling off. made worse in winter when the wet walls freeze and thaw, causing expansion. If you do not stop the water ingress, the next render you put on will peel again, There are other types of render, Lime based renders are limestone, some cement and hydraulic lime. These are more porous and allow moisture out. Though stopping the damp is paramount. K-Rend is a pre-mixed powder that is a lot more expensive than sand and cement, Decopierre is a pure limestone and marble mix that is also porous. These cost between £50-79 per mtr: Your house may not have roof felt which should be tucked into the gutters so a bit of roof work may help too. Hope this sheds View media item 26064 some light . cheers. photo looks good :) i have took a bit of it off myself hoping that i might get away with repointing and not rendure but the face of the bricks are damaged. the walls are very wet in places behind the rendure.
It has dried it out inside the house to a degree, where i have removed it.
The roof does have felt under the tiles but its an end terrace gable so finishes where the tiles do which i think is flush with the brickwork.
I also have a breeze block extention.
Non of the work men ive had look at it have mentioned lime based mixtures, other than the wall covering companies that cost a fortune but was still mainly sand and cement! if concrete rendure is put on with the roof problem sorted would i still find problems then? all inside walls are only covered in matt emultion so can breathe. should i speak to the workmen and express my concern or try and find someone that uses lime based rendure?

Lime was used for hundreds (or 1000's) of years before OPC cement was invented. Many old black and white tudor buildings still have it, your internal walls are probably lime plastered. The issue at the top is that the render is wider than the slates, so a dry verge needs adding to overlap the bricks and render. Not many builders like using lime based products as they are harder to apply. Take longer to dry. The 'coating companies' do tend to use cement. There paints are porous. but saying that a gable end should only be a few grand££ at most. All depends on your budget I guess, but £4 to 5k should see it all done. I know a few lime guys if you need help.ADD PICTURES IF POSS or PM me
