Hi
I need to repair a damp damaged garden wall, it was rendered one side which has all blown and I've removed and the pointing is falling out on most of the rest, I will rebuild the bad bits and try and sort out some decent drainage to prevent damp again. My question is - is it wise to render a wall in poor condition the brick work is crumbly in places, and also due to damp problem would lime or cement render be best ?

I would be inclined to knock it down and put it back in block work then scratch and render it..You could still keep the decorative blocks as features...
