i've recently primed (water based : x2 coats) and painted mdf doors (siklwood : water based - x3 coats). Not really happy with finish as light tends to show paint roller marks.

Could i just sand down (320 grade) and repaint with oil based paint - or do you think its my roller technique ?

By all means sand back to flatten the finish.

You may need to use a stearate coated silicon carbide to flatten the finish. Sanding WB is a pain though as it will take a number of weeks to harden sufficiently.

Perhaps use a roller and quality synthetic brush to reduce the orange peel finish in the future.

A tiny amount of water and some floetrol will help you to maintain a wet edge.
