you mean it is an outdoor gate, exposed to rain?
I think mine has about 12mm. Otherwise, you can have it closing onto the face of the gatepost, when it will not matter.
btw if you can fit a lintel or lych-gate miniature roof to keep the worst of the rain off, it will last longer. It will also help hold the two gateposts upright, not leaning together or apart.

Have 20mm gap during summer, has just started to rub in the wet weather .
