Hello, I have searched the 'net for how to replace my old fluorescent 8' single light unit with a double 6' LED version. I have this simple thought that the present light fitting is connected to the mains by a single cable with several wires in it. In principle, therefore, I should be able to isolate the unit, remove it and replace with my chosen LED unit and, simply, reconnect the mains wiring. I am aware of this thing called ballast, which may confuse things for me. I have seen instructions how to rewire the present unit to take LEDs but I want to replace the whole unit, anyway, as 8' tubes are not common. It feels like it should be a simple task, within my scope. Of course, I will not take chances and "fiddle" but I would appreciate knowing if there is some level of difficulty associated with the change or if I, as a mere DIY mortal, would be able to do it. Thanks, in advance, for your helpful advice.

Hi, if you're existing light is wired with a single cable you can replace the fitting easily just connecting L N E .
If you're wiring has more than one cable connected to it you should take a note of all the connections before you disconnect them. Pay particular attention as to which wire is connected to the L terminal on the fitting and mark it.

Kind regards,

Do be aware that LED tubes give out about half the light of the same size fluorescent and also use about half the power, so no gain in lumens per watt. Also they are very much more expensive to replace when they fail.
