Windows are 30 years old and they need replaced but was hoping to drag them out for longer. The windows closed really tight but some parts still have gaps when doing the card test.

My only thinking is that the frames are warped and beyond repair?

Which part, top, bottom, hinge side, handle side, not really a lot to go on

There are 2 hinges positioned at either side. The gap is in the middle to bottom half at each side. I took a straight edge and it does appear to be bowed slightly.

Very common with oversized tall casements especially top hung, in 35 years I've never come across a straight one, either thicker gaskets required for the sides OR replace the locking mechanism and fit corner drivers and fit short locking mechanisms halfway up each side so it pulls in, won't be cheap though, probably couple of hundred per window

Doubt there would be any form of reinforcement inside the profile on the long section and retrofitting would be a right ballache. Perhaps a more flexible draft seal strip, like a folded < of plastic, that can go thin at the ends but expand enough to close the gap in the middle

Thanks both - we’ve decided just to make the investment in new windows. Will do the worst offending windows now then the others over the next couple of years
