Replacing analogue with digital room thermostat

Oh! That's a bit of a mess. Not connected as per the instructions.

A lot of reds not connected to anything.
Some blues connected to live.

I think you are correct about seeking professional assistance.

Following the yellow cable from 2 back to its source, the red from the same source goes to 9 on the long vertical block connector, marked by my red arrow on the picture below. The blue goes to the smaller, horizontal block connector, out the other side of which is a further blue wire that heads off upwards to the boiler. There is also an unsheathed wire coming from the same source that is not present (or obvious) at the thermostat end.

This is all brand new, put in 7 weeks ago with the new boiler and tank.
