Hi there.
I have a bit of an old house and the tap end is hard up against the bathroom wall.
This has left about 8 inches of gap between the other end of the bath and the other wall and that wall has (annoyingly) an electric shower on it.
Over the years, various shelves to try and cover up the 8 inch gap and they were basically crap and leaked/rotted away.
I have decided to do things properly, this time and pop on here for some advice.
What I need to do is
1. Remove the shower pipe that is currently attached to the outside of the wall
2. Dig out a channel in the wall and put in a new pipe
3. Fill the gap back in with filler
4. Move the bath over so it is complete contact with the other wall
I have attached some photos and you can see that it is a bit of a state:
I have a few initial questions before I start:
1. The shower pipe seems to be stainless steel as opposed to copper - is this normal/acceptable?
2. The shower pipe eventually stops and connects to another pipe that does a really strange loop all under the bath before attaching to the mains pipe. I have used a metal detector and all I can tell is that it is not metal - what else could it be?
3. The big one, really - what pipe and fittings should I use for the replacement pipe? I have been watching loads of plumbing videos on youtube, recently. Whilst really interesting, this has left me somewhat confused by whether you should use copper piping or not and, if you use PVC, which type.
I personally like the idea of using Plex-A but am I correct in thinking that this is used more in the US than the UK?
Any pointers, before I start would be much appreciated.
