replacing attic door trim with ????

i would like to change out a cheap looking trim used to finish around an attic door (which has access from a laundry room so it's in a visible place) and make it look more professionally finished and more invisible.

I would rather NOT use any kind of decorative trim which makes only serves to call attention to the door.

Any suggestions to do this would be greatly appreciated.
