Replacing Basin Waste In Situ

I need to replace a basin waste with the basin and pedestal in situ (removing it isn't an option in this case).

I've fitted a standard waste a couple of times now however I don't have room to get any tools in to fasten the bottom nut, and am unable to tighten it up enough by hand due to lack of accessibility, and subsequently it leaks.

Would a waste like this (http://www.diy.com/nav/fix/plumbing...asin-Waste-With-Plug-Stainless-Steel-11478469) be suitable for a ceramic basin with built in overflow? (the kind you would normally use a slotted waste for) I'm presuming if I cover the black washer with sealant to allow it to better seal to the underside of the basin, I should be able to tighten it up adequately from above and get a good seal?

Otherwise, any suggestions how to tighten a normal nut from behind the pedestal? [/url]

Not my choice of doing it.
But if you did use that waste i'd try it dry fitting, as using silicone on the seal it'll more likely just push the seal out when tightening up the screw.

Why can't you remove the pedestal ?
I know they can be a bugger but sometimes the longer way is the best.
