Finally got round to thinking about replacing my aged consumer unit, and thought id ask the professionals for a few hints, the main question i was pondering on is whats the recommended way to extend any short cables. im hoping the existing will just reach a new unit, but id like to do a neat job rather than G string the cores......................

the best piece of advice i can give is get a spark to do it.in short, get it wrong and you could be killed.
also you will need an install cert on it because you worked on every circuit.this is one to take very seriously and is not diy work

Im pretty confident mate, i work for what used to be the local REC as a HV engineer etc etc , and am authorised to work live on the network, so without sounding like a smug bugger, im fully aware of the dangers........ I was just wondering what you chaps that do it day on day out do. when swapping the boards i will be taking out the cut out fuse, so all will be dead. But thanks for the warning, you never know who is asking these questions.................cheers ;)

fair enough mate you cant be too careful .use through crimps mate to extend the wires
