Replacing existing Ring Main Sockets with Metal Ones

indeed supplementry bonding is a mixed blessing. On the one hand it stops those metal parts that are bonded from having a potential difference between them but bonding nearly always brings earthing with it and grounding the victim better can increase the liklihood of a shock if contact with a live part happens.

I'll bet you've been 'doing electrics' for years, haven't you?

I would not be in the least bit surprised if you are a qualified electrician.
