Hi,
We had our boiler serviced just before Xmas. Just before the service the hot water had started being temperamental - sometimes it would run hot, then cold and you could get it to run hot again by turning the tap off and waiting a minute. I mentioned it to the engineer and after the service he said it seemed to be working okay now, but if it did still happen it was probably a sign of the heat exchange being clogged up and that they could come out and clean it out with acid.
Sure enough the problem was still there, so I had a guy out this week to clean it out. He did so, but the problem still existed. I'm now told that the Ignition PCB is the likely culprit and have been quoted £250 to replace it. Unhappy at the rising costs I decided to price a replacement myself. I found a new one for £80 and a used (but working) one for £20 both on eBay. I'm not shy of getting stuck in and have replaced a thermistor on the boiler before as well as replacing parts in my washing machine, so I thought I'd chance the £20 one and see how I get on.
I'm expecting it to be delivered on Monday and wondered how easy a task this actually is? It doesn't seem like I need to touch any of the gas elements (which I would never do), but does anyone have any advice on how to proceed?
Thanks,
Anthony
