Replacing old thermostat

Hi all,

I've managed to fix my central heating so it now heats all radiators! The next thing on my to-do list is buy a new modern WiFi thermostat and replace the old ACL TS142 stat (which is also missing it's dial).

I've read that it's most likely not going to be a straight forward replacement (nothing has been so far in my new house!).

Here is a pic of the innards of my existing stat and a diagram of the wiring for one of the options I'm looking to buy.

From looking at the diagram, the new stat will need more wires than I have available in the current stat - or am I interpreting it wrong?

Hoping for some guidance! Cheers, Phil

Irrelevant.

The wi-fi receiver should be placed near the boiler or wiring centre.
The cable to the thermostat position will then be redundant.

Brown (1)to L
Black. (4) to N
Blue (2). To N1
Then you’ll need a link between L and L1

ps. I don’t see an earth in the original wiring.

edit
Your stat seems to be designed for underfloor heating - there’s a probe connection between 5&6
hopefully your stat has an ambient room sensor?
Make sure you select that - if you can - from the menu.

Sorry I didn't see this reply.

The diagram I've provided was an incorrect variant. I've got the stat now and about to wire it in.

The diagram is as follows and this is what I've done so far.

When you say link between L and L1 do you mean literally to have another wire coming out of L and into L1?

With this set up there is now power to the stat - presumably the switch bit between L & L1 fire the boiler up for heating?

Cheers,
Phil

Yes. Wire between 4 and 1

those wires look a bit chunky. If you can’t get two wires in to 4, you may need a bit of separate terminal block to split out two separate conductors.

When I'm back in the property tomorrow I'll give it a go and report back. Thanks for your help
