Replacing trvs

Our system is powered by a combi boiler and has been fitted with Drayton trvs since installation. However, the Draytons seemed less than reliable and were slowly replaced with the cheaper wax based trvs.

As these are now starting to go wrong, perhaps that was not the best decision! So I am thinking of returning to the liquid Drayton TR4s. Have they improved the design over the years?

Previously, the trvs have been replaced with the system fully drained down - but I suspect this may not be entirely necessary. Is there a quicker way to replace both the head and body, without pipe freezers?

draining the whole system is the way to go for changing all the trvs. If it were mine I'd chuck some cleaner in for a few weeks before doing the job.
