Please tell me how I should mesure for new vinyl windows in my brick rancher home. I currently have aluminum windows and wish to install a vinyl replacement window in their place. How do I secure windows to the old rough opening?? Do attach them to the brick vaneer or to the wood in my walls???[/b]

assuming that you will be replacing the window + frame, you'll have to remove the architrave. From there you should be able to see how the window frame is secured. If you need to get the measurements, just run a tape and get the external frame size.
When you've got your replacement windows (inc frame) remove the old frame and install the new one...making sure it is level.
