Replacing washer on Bristan Fairfax basin tap

I have a pair of Bristan Fairfax basin taps:

I am not sure how to remove the top so that I can get to the valve.
Modern taps have a splined shaft that the tops locate with. Are traditional styles the same? I don't want to damage it by forcing it.

Unscrew the tops marked hot and cold which should expose a screw to take off the handles.

Lift off the "barrels" which will expose the valve nut.

Turn off water first though.
