hi.

I am a tightwad landlord (only kidding) and hate putting my hand in my pocket!

I discovered that the chipboard on the base of a bath is soaked due to a leaking waste pipe. When it dries out will it still be safe or do I need to replace it? Is there anyway to replace it or at least prop it up some way?

Hopefully I don't need to buy a new bath!!!

Cheers and thanks in advance for any advice

Bits of floorboard cut with a jig and supported by 4 x 2 on edge - or something. Depends where the exhaust goes of course. Just spread the load. A 20 stone person on one foot doesn't bend a floorboard a lot, it's easy to go OTT when worrying!

thanks Chris!

just to be clear - I mean the chipboard which is bonded to the base of the bath - not the actual flooring beneath the bath. the cradle rests on a couple of 4x2s. the floorboards are only slightly damp so should dry out OK.

So basically I unscrew the cradle, support the bath and remove the old chipboard so that I can slide in new wood?

Sorry for sounding like a complete amateur.

Thanks again

If you've stopped the leak why not leave the chippy there - unless it's swollen in which case it'll move as it dries out.
