OP,
ask at a local Builders supplies for NH lime or bagged lime.

FWIW: the key to pointing anything is to grind or rake out to a 22mm depth esp. in chimney stack brickwork.

Depending on the bricks, you might want to consider an NHL5 lime as its an exposed area.

I am going to place my order online is the best choice NHL5
With NHL5 do you mix it with sand?
Also can you buy some type of dye i would like it to be dark grey.

I spoke with a place called conserv who specialise in lime and they told me to use NHL 3.5 for my stack (soft red bricks), they said NHL 5 was only for severe weather conditions / exposed coastal locations, but seeing as you want a dark coloured mix maybe NHL 5 would be better for you as it more like cement in colour.

They actually sell the stuff in various colours ready mixed with sand, so you just add water. This is an expensive way to buy it, but convenient and consistent.

If you want a dark mix go with a red / brown sand, although if you are going for sharp I have only seen this with a light sand.
