I've got a Victorian terrace house that needs pointing and I've decided to use a gun for speed. Will 1 NHL 3.5:2 soft sand:1 sharp sand be ok for pointing (some pointing is only about 4mm wide) and will it be ok going through the gun? Also are plastisisers or any other admixture advised especially in this weather?

1. Dont point when there is a risk of frost - wait.

2. I've never had much luck with pointing guns - too many variables, esp. if you'r a DIY'er. Whoever/wherever you get the gun from ( there are different kinds ) should advise on the mix and operation.

3. You can use fine 4 1/2" diamond blades to rake out thin beds.Typically, thin beds, esp. in face brick, are pointed up with linseed oil putty ( not glazing putty ), AKA trowelling mastic. Usually it's red or v. light brown.
But thin joints are always a bit tricky to point up.

Thing is, you cant do patches of different pointing colours unless you'r dealing with different panels of brickwork. Then again, one can dye the mortar/compo.
