Required foundation depth

Hi,

Ive been looking through the Scottish building regs technical handbook for required foundation depth for a single storey side extension.

Cant seem to find the part about it?

Presumable there are regulations around this?

It's quite rock ground

You won't find it.

There can't be a stipulation on foundation-type because ground conditions can vary so much. However, if there are no unusual ground conditions and a domestic extension is being built, you would usually look at a concrete strip 200 thick by 600 wide, at a depth of around 1m.

If you are on rock, obviously a smaller strip will do. Your local building inspector will be a good guide as they will know the ground conditions.
