I spilled some bleach on my old pine kitchen table. The bleach has left 2 large pale patches. What's the best way to fix it?
I realise I'll probably have to sand it, can I do this by hand?

The table is unstained and unvarnished, but looks quite old.
How can I restore the slightly grubby look to it?
Thanks

If you want to restore a uniform finish, you will have to start by bleaching the rest of the table top; then clean the whole surface with water (which will further raise the grain) then sand down (by hand is fine, use a sanding block and progressively finer grades of abrasive paper).

Liberon Black Bison fine paste wax would be a good finish to use to darken the wood and restore the patination: http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Liberon-Black-Bison-Fine-Paste-Wax-21582.htm
