Hi guys so some members already might of seen posts from me on here of late
im doing a refurb of this 100 year old house its had issues all over with rising damp for many years
after opening up the cavitys i found they where totally blocked with black rubbish which i presume fell down there when the house was build as this house has no sand and cement mortar joints its like a weak coal/ash mix with lime perhaps ?
ive cleaned out all the cavitys and i looked down the line of using a chemical dpc either creams or rods however due to the fact that these products dont always work i went with the line of removing 1 brick up on the internal cavity wall and installing a physical dpc doing around a meter section along at a time working with a roll and keeping it on the roll then replacing the 4/5 bricks letting it go off and then taking out the next meter section ,a couple of freinds i know who are in the trade have suggested i could cause structural issus such as future movement and cracks and have said i should of just used the dpc creams...
however aslong as i make sure when i put the bricks back in that the mortar joints are full which i have been with a tuck pointer and putting my hand around the back of the brick till i feel the mortar coming out could i really cause any future serious issues ??
