I am installing Galvanised L10 L-shaped lintels above my windows as the outer leaf was originally just supported by the timber window frames. ( I now understand this is quite common in older houses)

My question is do I need a dpc over the lintel?
Do I bridge the cavity with it, I.e taking out half the mortar from an internal course and mortaring in a dpc?

If so would this be suitable? http://www.screwfix.com/p/damp-proof-course-450mm-x-30m/55072

Should I put a bed of mortar on the lintel, then dpc, then mortar and then brick?

The house has 250mm cavity walls with cavity wall insulation installed. Not sure if any of that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

If it's a galvanized lintel, you still need a flexible dpc over it.

DPC directly on lintel (ie without mortar), then mortar + brick. Leave a weep hole or two for drainage.
