Ring main tripping

10 year old house, 2 ring mains - left and right of building. Right ring tripped a few weeks ago. Reset and tripped a few random times over a couple of days. Then ok for 5 days till next trip, reset again for 7 days. I have done the unplug everything and plug in one at a time but no result. The ring feeds tv, phone adaptor (voip) fibre internet connection, router, table lamps, etc. The breaker resets manually immediately after a trip with no problems which does not indicate damp (to me) There is a waterproof double outside socket spurred off one socket, I believe installed by previous house owner. Coincidentally tripping seems to happen in rainy weather (suspect outside socket?)
Are there any options left for a competent diy’er?

Yep check outside items first, that double socket could be the problem.

Isolate the circuit and open the outside socket i wouldnt be surprised if water comes out.

+1 for water ingress. Make sure you isolate the circuit before investigation, just in case of arcing.

Is this an MCB, RCD or RCBO that is tripping?

If it's not the outside socket you will probably need an elecrician to do an insulation test on the ring main cables.

To use over 32 amps is a lot of power, seems unlikely damp in an outside socket.

10-year-old so should have RCD protection as well.

If an appliance the 13 amp fuse should rupture, so there is a chance it could be a very wet socket, but the danger involved when 32 amp plus is being used, it really is time to get an electrician in, to trip a 32 amp MCB that is a dangerous fault.

Press the test buttons on any rcds anyway to confirm operation

And you've nothing on the circuit that could cause overload .

A faulty MCB seems unlikely but..

Maybe the water is somehow shorting live and neutral

Interesting. I’d keep a record of when it happens so you can think about what is in use. Could take a while to track down too

He should deffo press the test buttons anyway , confirm that operation .

If for some reason they don't ,the trip issue would be somewhat clearer
