Before getting new carpets I need to do something with my floorboards. The only way I can describe them is rippled, the carpets dip and rise at every floorboard like waves. Our house is 90 years old and the floorboards are original. Every floorboard is raised in the middle right along the full length from skirting to skirting causing this even ripple effect.

Thought about sanding them but worried this will thin down the centre and make them ripple again?

Any suggestions gratefully received.
