Hello all,

A bit of help please. My wooden front doors I believe are nearly 100 years old and have been stained with ronseal 5 year stain (dark oak) couple of times since I bought the house. Initially a decorator did it when I bought it about 5 years ago and I gave it another 3 coats of it about 2 years ago.

The stain is starting to fade near the bottom of the door again and will probably need maintaining in a year or so. I have heard good things about sadolin extra durable so was thinking I will use this next time?

  1. Is it OK to switch? And will it last longer than the ronseal one?

  2. Or is it better / easier to stay with Ronseal 5 year and give it another 2 coats?

  3. If I was to switch how do I prepare the wood? Do I need to sand or clean with white sprite beforehand?

Sorry for the amateur questions..
