I was really delighted to see that two people have recently been convicted and sentenced to five years in prison for their part in a roof coating (painting) scam that involved mis-selling of "thermal" roof coatings that were supposed to reduce heating bills.

These products do not reduce heating bills because the vast majority of roofs in the UK are ventilated and the way roof tiles are laid ensures an airflow that renders any "thermal" paint useless.

You can read about the conviction and the claims this company made in the BBC News website - http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-31701020 they are only one of many scammers out there at the moment.

If any visitors to this site are thinking about having their roof tiles coated or painted, I would suggest you read the following pages before making your decision, if you have been ripped off recently then please contact your local Trading Standards office as soon as possible, they are cracking down on these rogue traders and the sooner you contact them, the better.

I hope this information is useful, I have over 17 years experience in the roofing industry and in my opinion these roof coating products are being mis-sold up and down the country.

What do you think of roof coatings and paints?

I would love to start a discussion on this topic.

I think I could almost re-tile a roof for the price that has been charged for coating a roof with that liquid nonsense.

If they had just advertised it simply as roof painting and not the whole thermal insulation sloblocks, they probably would still be earning a small fortune.

Simply offer a painting service with a 5 year guarantee and a load of small print saying if it peels then tough shyte.

Obviously it's the biggest load of cack on the planet.

its awful system, the worst invented. It does nothing for your roof apart from "spruce it up" for a small amount of time.

If a customer is going to be fooled by such scams then let them.
I carried out a new roof installation a few years back, a woman on the same road had her roof painted. On completion of my job, she came over and we were talking, she had paid MORE for this painting ****e than what my customer had paid for her new 10 year guaranteed roof!!
