Roof Trusses - Velux Window

Hi all

See attached image I am cutting the truss to put a velux window in. I need to structurally support the truss being the red lines in the image (8x2 timbers). I need to know what I need to use to connect them together. Nails are obviously a no no and screws weaken the truss so I am told - is there some kind of jiffy hanger I can use?

Why are nails a no no? And why would screw weeken a roof truss?

As for nails I use a 1st fix paslode nail gun to do my first fix work.
