Is there a consequence - to tree or footing - of having a small root 'grow' through a new footing (for an extension) - i.e. to wrap in hessian prior to pouring foundations ???
Well needless to say that the closer a tree is to an building, the deeper the foundations must be so as to ensure that the tree roots do not affect the foundations (BCO's will normally demand extra depth for foundations close to buildings). Therefore i would strongly urge u not to wrap the root in the foundation as any growth of the root in future years could have a serious impact of the stability of the foundations i.e cause cracking or movement.
I would talk to your BCO as they should be able to give you proper guidance on what they prefer you to do in situations such as this.
