We had a leak from flashing by the chimney, this took a while to notice. The water came down the side of a large window onto the sill.

We have noticed that there looks to be a rotted piece of wood above the window. Without taking too much wallpaper off this looks to be where you would expect the lintel to be. But I can’t believe there is a wooden lintel in a 1970s built property. Is this likely to be a lintel?

The flashing was fixed but we often see tiny small flecks of wood on the sill below? Can a rotted piece of wood turn into woodworm ?

It might be a lintel or part of the casing.

To check it properly you would need to chop away the plaster around it, and assess whether a local repair is appropriate using an epoxy resin wood repair system.
