I am installing 12v LED lighting in a shower room. They will be wall mounted 500mm from the floor. The associated transformer will be in the loft. Whilst I am sure it is good practice to follow normal safe zone rules for the 12v wiring, am I required to do so? I would like to run the cables in the channel for the microbore central heating pipes

you gotta ask yourself how hot do the pipes get and will it damage the wires, also what effect will the heat have on the capacity of the wires..?

12 volt led?? just run some copper tape down the wall and along and tap off this.. then just paint over after.. :D

BTW, that last part was a joke... it is not intended as actual advice and should not be taken as such

Fair point about the heat... I guess there are some other options open to me that I would never consider for a mains cable ... like running the cable down the corner of the room and behind the skirting board .... does that sound any better?

A word of caution.

Not all transformers supplied for LED lighting have fully isolated outputs. You need to ensure the low voltage output is fully isolated from the mains in the type you are intending to use.

I also would advise earthing one side of the output to ensure that in the event of a failure of insulation in the transformer the LEDs cannot become live.

The transfomer could fail, the LEDs do not light but the wiring to them has become shorted to the live mains in the transformer.
