Hi, I am looking for advice. I am planning a knockthrough and taking down a supporting wall (suppports floor above only). Knock through is 2.5 metres wide. I will need an rsj, but the house is already underpinned. Can i use a steel column (and pad) on top of the underpinning concrete pad (this is 1 m x 1 m x 1m)? Thanks

If in doubt over foundations may be best to box out the opening with steelwork, so beam over supported on columns at sides on a beam under to spread load over existing footing.
