Hi, does anyone know if it is true that when you take out a gas fire and have it replaced with an electric one, that you must have the fire place bricked up ? We want to swap our Gas for Electric, but are unsure of any regulations ??

Ripped out a bbu in october and had the bricky there to brick up, luckily enough the tennent mentioned she thought it had to be left open.quick call to the fire shop and sure enough it was an inset (slightly) electric fire and all the bricky had to do was build the sides up.I capped the terminal though
Why would you want electric, when you can have a gas fire?
Electric fires are more expensive to run, and most make the air in the room too dry.
