hello
we currently have an oil fired boiler running our central heating system. getting very expensive. we're thinking of replacing the boiler with an electric powered one but keeping the existing wet system. ie straight swap- does anybody have experience of electric boilers? ie cost compared to oil? efficiency? we do not have access to gas-any advice much appreciated
thanks Martyn

Electricity is the dearest per kW for central heating. It is 100% efficient to use but only 40% efficient to produce (because of how it's generated and transported in the UK). The only serious practical alternative for an existing wet system is a wood pellet fired boiler but it requires a boiler room or garage to accommodate it. You could also consider a log gassification boiler but would need access to good, cheap wood logs.
