Hi,

I need to have the power cables run to a studio at the bottom of my garden (about 50 meters) and I wanted to know whether the cables could be legally run above ground along the fence.

Cheers,

Problem is that a fence isn't a secure permanent structure.

What would happen when a gale blows the fence down (or part of)?

External surface runs need to be done on brick, if the fence is stone / concrete based then it would be acceptable- then again getting SWA cable grips fixed in to a concrete slat fence would be near impossible.

I'd go for a trench and since it's all but Autumn any damage to lawns and beds would be sorted by next Spring.

If you do a trench I'd suggest you provide ducts to allow for SWA, for Cat5 (net access), voice and even a aerial feed for the odd football match.

Also run in some nylon draw ropes for future pulls.
