Hi,

Using Rustins Danish oil over the years on a wooden kitchen top.
Cleaned, sanded lightly and cleaned again. Applied as instructed with cotton cloth.

Surface in places remains tacky even after two weeks of hot weather.

Is there any tip of the trade or product to make it dry out?

Many thanks in advance,

Peter

Danish oil is not the best product for kitchen worktops, slow drying suggests it’s been applied too heavily or top has contamination.

Top was very clean and application was not too heavy.

What product would you recommend?

Thanks

application was not too heavy.

If you apply more than will soak in and disappear with 20 minutes, you have to wipe off the excess with a rag.

Since you have sticky oil lying on the surface, it was too heavy.

Sorry.

You can try cleaning it off with white spirit, but once it has started to turn to gum, you will probably have to use a scraper.

Air flow will help, do you have a floor mounted fan?

It does sound as though you applied too much. I am for about 6 thin coats. Sanding with 360 silicone carbide in between each coat.

I've applied every year. In this heat I don't think a fan would help. Paint is not wet but just tacky to touch like a post-it note.
slowly slowly getting better after three weeks.

I did sand down but not to bare wood, just to give a key.

Anyhow, thanks for all ideas.
