Rusty gate posts..

Hello, wondered if anyone could advise me.

I need to paint some metal/iron gate posts. As there is surface rust on the posts, is there a metal paint such as ronseal which you can paint straight over the rust. Alternatively is it better to get rid of all the rust before painting.

The gates are also rusted but I have taken these off to be shot blasted and powder coated. As the posts are fixed I cannot do this.

Wire brush em then yes you can use Hammerite onto rust.

Smoothrite ...by Hammerite people.....is better, imo
