Rather than hi jack the Lime Render thread- and Richard's flue comment

I have always felt relieved that as a finishing trade, our final product does not have many safety implications*. Electricity and gas in the wrong hands make me worry.

Will the Home sellers Pack now being abolished make way for more cowboy sparkies etc?

* Probably get loads of examples of dangerous work now, ignoring fire regs or pulling down asbestos are tow, though not strictly finishing work

im in favour of scrapping this, to tell the truth mich i dident know about it till i read your post it will just go back to the old ways which is better ill be selling my house in a few years i hope and not to have to pay out for one of those crappy hip things is going to make putting it on the market a lot easier not to mention cheaper, although as i understand they are keeping the energy rating which is £60 to tell the truth i dont even think that should be there either, in my oppinion all that should be required is just your normal survey paid for by the buyer

I think it would be alot fairer to have the seller have all the relevant inspections and surveys, gas, elec, structural etc etc, that way the purchaser know exactly what they are buying and it would also help curb people bodging in their own homes for someone else to deal with later on in life. It would save a lot of purchasers money of having to pay fer surveys and then realising they cannot afford the remedial works. Perhaps the vendor should be made to provide quotes for the remedial works that the house requires, it would make the whole system or buying houses much easier and everyone is in the same boat, instead of many purchasers having multiple surveys on the same property.

Just my opinion, i know there will be disagreements but it wouldn't do if we all like the same thing.

A bit more on topic, as a self employed time served, qualified, registered electrician (amongst other things, many other things) it is a concern when you start out and especially when you go to work on properties and explain that their installation is dangerous but they dont want it made safe. You cant help worrying alot at first.

i did my first paid plastering job the other week (well £70 to create a false ceiling, board and skim it, so hardly paid, more of a favour for my uncle) my only concern on that job was that the plastering was spot on smooth flat and even.

well john first of all congratulations on doing your first paid plastering job :) i think houses should be sold as seen same as cars or anything else, you shouldn't need to have to be told to have to get quotes b4 you can sell something, and after the survey" if you have had one that is" that is the time to do a bit of haggling to get money knocked off the house to get the work done thats my opinion :)
