That fault you describe is not always due to a problem with the thermostat.
Do you have a frost thermostat somewhere? They are designed to override all of the other controls and should be set at 5 degrees to provide frost protection. Sometimes they get inadvertently turned up.
What is the Salus controlling? With some systems, the thermostat will control the boiler directly, so could well be the cause of the problem. You don't give your Salus model details, but if your Salus is the RF version, is the green light on the receiver going out when the set temperature is reached?
With other types of zoned systems, the thermostat controls a motorised valve, which in turn controls the boiler. Sometimes the motorised valves fail and cause the boiler to stay on.
If it's a wired thermostat and you are capable of doing so safely, removing the wires from the thermostat 'live' and 'switched live' terminals and connecting them to a standard on/off switch would allow you to test the operation of the rest of the system without the thermostat in circuit.
