Is soft sand ok or is plastering sand required? Pro and cons?

Pro and cons? Let's start with soft sand / building sand , the cons for that is its unwashed got silt and impurities that cause shrinking and cracking its grains are round not angular which also means it doesn't bind as well and also breaks down more easy than plastering sand would in bad weather the only pro is it easier to work with.
Pros for plastering sand... Washed ,hardly any silt ,angular grains that bind ,and more hardy than soft sand , cons none

Ok, thanks, have asked a few plasterers and get differing views, many recommend a mix of both for best results.
They only put the soft in to make it more workable I wouldent use it
