Been asked many times, still a confusion. Ok outside wall render, lots say use sharp sand others say plastering sand!

I have the bags of tarmac sharp sand, there are some fairly big bits in it as normal, so it’s fairly gritty, why do some just use this, it’s not as smooth.

I also have a bag of plastering sand, very smooth. Is it sharps for the scratch 4 to 1 then plastering for top, 5 to 1 adding a bit of waterproofer to both, so many ways and ideas!

Also how long after the top coat do you nylon float? Been half an hour in the sun, still soft... temp is around 22 today

I don’t I saw just asking why some use sharp and some use plastering sand. I noticed sharp is a lot more gritty. Under a front door step and bottom of a garden wall. Thank you
