Sanding interior pine doors?

Hi,

Just a quick question for you experienced chippies.

What is the best method for sanding down interior pine doors, 3 with varnish and 2 without?
Grade of sandpaper, best methods etc?

Any help would be appreciated as I'm running well behind on my DIY and Xmas looms
