Is there a way to make the battery fault condition less dramatic (i.e. not sound the internal sounder!)

e.g. Do the Fault Response commands (31/32) manage this? If I was to set them to NoAlarm/Silent?

OK... it's only every couple of years, but the battery always seems to fail in the middle of the night scaring the sh** out of the entire family!

Commands 31/32 are for telephone line fault.
You can not turn off fault sounders for battery fault

Thanks Handymanjo. Maybe I'll replace the battery every 23 months!

If you are changing your battery every 23 month you could have a charging issue ?
Get a multimeter and check charging voltage.if charging voltage is high 13.90 volts upwards I would change control panel

Good suggestion, thanks. Battery life has been getting worse over the years.

Castle euromini is the closest control panel to 9800 with a,b,c,d settings and not too expensive.

Haha.... Yes indeed, it does get kinda warm. However previous batteries have lasted 4-5 years with similar number of towels.

Point taken though. 80% of airing cupboard contents hasn't been used since the 9800 was state-of-the-art!
