scraping adhesive out of tile gaps

does anyone know of a tool that can be used to scrape excess adhesive out of floor tiles, before grouting?

is the removal of such adhesive necessary for a water proof finish?

Nah, use a chisel. Just be careful when you're scraping near the tile corners that you don't chip the corners off. You can be pretty rough on the tiles away from the corners though.
