Screeding a floor

HI there.

Im planning on fitting vinyl on the bathroom floor but when the flooring man came today he said the floor was to lumpy and had several holes in it. Whats the best way to sort this problem out as he reckons the floor will show every lump and bump and hole? Is there a easy way to sort this problem?

A floor levelling compound mix with water and float it off.
