Screw size for 18mm laminate vanity

I need to attach brackets to an 18mm laminate vanity.
Brackets are 2mm thick.

Are 16mm too long / risk of blowing the laminate other side?
Is 12mm a safer choice?

Should be fine .

Use a pilot drill set so deep in the chuck that it cannot pierce the other side. And drive the screws in by hand as it's chipboard.
