Got my hall skimmed about a week ago and looking to get it painted soon. The plasterer had suggested 2 coats of thinned emulsion before a final coat of good quality emulsion.

At B&Q the paint lady suggested to us to coat with a sealant before painting, we opted to buy the sealant but just wondering if we made the right choice.

Its not too late for us to change our mind.

Opinions welcomed please?

Take it back...my experience of people in places like that are that they are clueless...your plasterer gave you the proper advice.

Theres is absolutly no need to 'seal' walls..how much was the paint by the way?

If it's "plaster sealer", there's absolutely nothing wrong with it because that's what it's for as long as your plaster's dry, however, if your plaster isn't dry, thinned , contract ,emulsion will do, but it's no good putting a vinyl over the top of that unless your plaster's dry, in which case "plaster sealer's" perfect, if it is "plaster sealer". If it isn't "plaster sealer", then it's not perfect.
;)

So, what you saying then?

Yep, I (reluctantly) ;) agree with 'Le Growl' ..again.....plaster sealer is ok..but as we all know, it isnt common practice...th woman in the shop probably saw the words 'sealer' and 'plaster' and handed her the tin!
