Hi all

Any advice on best way to seal this oak upstand with worktop? Did it previously with silicone, but got black mould under the silicone within a year.

There's hardly any gap at the bit behind tap that gets most water.

Is the idea to just fill the gap with the silicone, or to bond to both upstand and worktop?

Thanks

Black mould would be caused by leaving items on the top preventing air flow and/or poor cleaning regime.
Clear silicon is all that’s required assuming the top has been sealed with a top oil ?

I'm in two minds about this one. If you seal it 100% effectively, water won't get in and hang around. If you seal it 99% effectively, water will get in but take ages to dry out, causing rot.
I would make sure both surfaces are well treated with oil and then leave it unsealed.

Yes I was thinking along the same lines. It's all treated with Osmo worktop oil, which is excellent, but I think maybe makes a less good seal with the silicone
